Carnival in the Mexican Caribbean: The funniest party of the year!

What is Carnival like in the Mexican Caribbean?

Carnival in the Mexican Caribbean has its roots in Indigenous and African traditions, fused with a Spanish influence. The festival has become an integral part of the Caribbean culture and is considered one of the most important festivities of the region.

It is known for its lively parades, streets filled with live music, people dressed up in colorful costumes and dance & music competitions.

Where do the celebrations take place?

Carnival is celebrated in many of Mexico’s coastal cities, including Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres. Each city has its own unique version of the festival, with different traditions and customs.

Cancun, one of Mexico’s most renowned tourist destinations, is also a popular place to celebrate Carnival. With a lively nightlife scene, beach parties and colorful parades, it’s definitely an excellent place to visit during this festivity.

The traditional celebration will be held until February 21st, from Chichen Itza Avenue and Tulum Avenue, towards the Plaza de la Reforma, which will host multiple carnival activities.
