No matter what time you choose to break your fast, if you’re visiting Playa del Carmen, there are plenty of places to enjoy a good breakfast (or brunch!) and fuel your body! Here are some of our favorites:
Lara&Luca
Located just a few steps from 5th Av. near the Playacar area, this place offers French breakfast options with cappuccinos, lattes, mochas and macchiatos. They also serve lunch and dinner, with options like pasta with meat sauce or tostadas.
Plank
This is the place to go if you’re looking for a delicious brunch. It’s located in Playa del Carmen’s City Center near 5th Av. and has been rated as a 5-star diamond award restaurant by TripAdvisor.
Plank has an extensive selection of food options: everything from Benedict eggs to pancakes topped with fresh fruit compote. For those who prefer a more salty option, try the avocado toast or the nachos with beans & cheese over tortilla chips topped off with salsa verde & guacamole.
Bio Natural
You’ll find both locations in the downtown area of Playa del Carmen. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere while tasting one of their vegetarian or vegan dishes.
There are many options on their menu, but if you’re looking for something light, go with one of their smoothies or juices (the agua de melocotón is our favorite!). Their granola bowl is also worth trying if you want something more substantial than just fruit and yogurt – it comes with fresh berries, coconut flakes, banana slices… basically, all your favorite things rolled into one delicious package.
La Vagabunda
La Vagabunda on 38th St. is a local favorite! Enjoy a Mexican Breakfast with a twist that won’t drain your pocket.
The menu offers breakfast tacos and burritos (and all kinds of other things), but what makes this establishment stand out is its variety of egg options! From classic eggs to an avocado version or even one with chili sauce—whatever floats your boat can be found on their menu!
If you’re looking for something more traditional, go for an omelet made with mushrooms, spinach, or cheese. If you want something sweet after your meal, then try the pancakes topped with fruit or Nutella syrup! Yummy!
Maison Pierre
Maison Pierre is your spot if you’re looking for a place in Playa del Carmen that serves fresh pastries. Located on 10th Av. in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen, this French bakery is another local favorite.
The restaurant offers an eclectic menu ranging from crêpes to salads and sandwiches, but their speciality are the freshly baked pastries and breads that change daily based on what’s available from the local organic markets.
La Cueva del Chango
If you’re looking for a delicious and authentic Mexican breakfast at an outdoor place with a lot of vegetation, while being greeted by a Spider Monkey, look no further than La Cueva del Chango.
The food here is fantastic! Their omelets are large enough to share between two people, the huevos rancheros are incredible, and their chilaquiles are to die for. We’re also huge fans of their coffee: very strong with lots of flavors—you will like it!
If you want something sweet, order one of their fresh fruit smoothies with granola on top. They have great combinations like pineapple-mango or strawberry-banana-kiwi; and don’t forget about the classic Mexican pastries in the display case!
Chez Waffle
Chez Waffle is located in the south end of Playa del Carmen, on 1st Av. near Mamitas Beach. Their menu includes delicious sweet and savory dishes like waffles topped with berries, honey or chocolate; crêpes filled with fruits or ice cream, and all kinds of options served on a waffle: like Waffle Benedict Eggs.
CINCO by Thompson Hotels
This Mexican restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a great breakfast menu, where you can find dishes like huevos rancheros (eggs with salsa) or chilaquiles (fried tortillas with salsa and cheese).
Located on 5th Av. in Playa del Carmen, it has a great view of the beach and a great atmosphere.
